Getting there

At the top of the cliff towering ruins of the Monastery  of the medieval fortress Calamita.   Built the fortress was in the early XV century on the site of the old Byzantine ruler of the Crimean strengthen the Christian principality of Theodoro.   In 1475 the Turks seized the Crimea, was rebuilt and renamed the fort, calling it Inkerman (from the Turkic languages ​​"cave fortress").   After the annexation of Crimea to Russia in 1783, consolidation has lost its military significance.  
The path leading to the top of Monastic rock, coincides with an  ancient road  cut in the rock.  
After making a sharp turn in a spacious cave of natural origin, the road climbs higher and leads to a strong semi-circular tower number 1  travel portal with (see chart on page. 46).   This tower was erected at a very early stage of the existence of the fortress.   To her left, near the cliff, was one of the  wells that  supplied the fortress with water.   Next to it begins a staircase carved into the rock on which you can descend into a cave temple located at the foot of the cliff.   Now pass it closed metal door.  



At 10 meters from the tower number 1 is  a semi-circular tower number 2,  built in the early XV century.   It was designed to further protect the new gates in the tower number 1.   The  tower number 3,  located in the northeastern corner of the fortress, preserved only undercut rock.   Over the history of the fortress tower completely rebuilt thrice.   Also, almost completely preserved tower number 4.   In the XVIII century, according to the memoirs of the famous traveler Evliya Celebi, it was a  prison.  
Next on the castle moat pass the ruined  towers of number 5 and 6  - you arrive at the southern edge of the mound.   In the south-western extremity of the plateau are the remains of a medieval land of the temple, which examined the move along the western cliff plateau until you reach the ruins of the tower number 1, which began with examination of the fortress.   From the tower go down the road that takes you to the  source  of  St. Clement.   Then turn left - you go back to buildings of the monastery of St. Clement.  
Monastery of Saint Sophia  
On the left bank of the Black, the train station "Inkerman-1", is another interesting medieval building Inkerman Valley.   Monastery of Saint Sofia was founded in the XIV-XV centuries, and consisted of four churches, houses and farm buildings.   Home minster is the largest cave temple in the Crimea.   It was consecrated in 1905 in the name of the icon of Our Lady "Joy of All Who Sorrow."   The temple follows the shape of the ground cross-domed building.   In recent years, the monastery also conducted restoration work.
